Another year has come and gone
Full of memories, laughter, and such
A dash of sorrow here and there
Loved ones we'll miss so much...
All things green, are barren now
Just longing to venture and grow
New hope and opportunity await
Beneath the fallen snow...
Twelve months of living and learning
Of trials and being blessed.....
One last farewell to the passing year
As we quietly lay it to rest....
Taps play softly in the distance
The countdown all ready passed
Toasts are made, hopes renewed
As the world lifts their glass...
Looking ahead to tomorrow
With resolutions and places to go....
A brand new start, another chance
Like seeds beneath the snow......
Life is meant to be lived to the fullest
And when another year is at end.....
We say farewell to a part of life
We will never have again....
So take each day as it comes......
Embrace your family and friends
Be willing to weather the winds of trials
And be strong enough to bend......
Live, love, laugh, and learn
Be willing to accept and grow....
No matter how harsh, cold, or deep we lie
Beneath the fallen snow......
Melissa R. Martin is the proud mother of two wonderful sons. She owns and operates a daycare with her husband, Ken.
Melissa grew up in a little town called Pound, Virginia. She loved school and graduated with honors and she loves to write!
"I started writing poetry and short stories in junior high and never really thought much about it until my English teacher
told me how good my work really was. I began reading more and more poetry and was drawn to such poets as Robert Frost,
T.S Eliot, Emily Dickinson, Robert Browning, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
My inspiration comes from many sources; the greatest ones being God, my parents, my sons, my husband, and
my past."
Someone once told Melissa that her poetry tended to be surreal, sad, dark or dreary, but she doesn't agree with that totally.
Some of her writing does turn out that way, but she is also an outstanding poet of uplifting, inspirational, and joyful poetry,
as well.
"I'm diverse and am not tied down to any one type of writing. I write because it's in my heart and I
need to get it out."
The results: many people have told her that her writing has touched them in one way or another. Melissa's desire is to connect
with everyday people in their everyday lives. She wants to be an inspiration, to lift the spirit, and to be someone that the
reader can identify with.
"If one person can do that, then it makes it all worthwhile."
